We had a great time visiting the High Desert Musuem and taking part in their "Fired Up!" program. Erica, our instructor taught the kids about different kinds of wildfires and how they can be good for the forest or extremely destructive. The kids participated in a variety of science projects including building a match forest and testing different patterns of burning and building Ponderosa pine trees out of wire and paper and then watching them burn like a real forest in the parking lot (supervision and fire extinguishers were of course part of the project!). We then participated in a scavenger hunt, got to tour the museum and meet all the resident animals and eat lunch. It was a wonderful and informative day and the museum is just so beautiful and well designed. Nice weather made it really enjoyable to be outside. We had a great time!
